Unfortunately, it's not perfect, and many apps don't react all that well to microG. It also defuses its side of Analytics and Ads, making sure apps can't phone home as much as they otherwise would. It's easier to trust on if you're a programmer because you can just look into its sourcecode to see what it's doing behind the hood, which means you can audit it and you know that what you see is what you get. MicroG is designed to be a libre, open-source, stand-in replacement for the Google Play Services core, and most of its APIs and the features that it offers. Like anything proprietary coming from Google, we don't trust it to respect our privacy, and we have valid reasons not to. The 'nano' version simply doesn't install other Google applications that tend to be bundled as system apps in Google Android devices.īut even that core is part of the problem. As everyone else is saying, you're still installing the full proprietary Google Play Services core into your ROM.
